School Vision and Values

Our Vision Statement:

At St Thomas à Becket CE Primary School

with wisdom and inspiration, rooted in our Christian Values,

we nurture all to flourish.

Our Values

In 2018, Children, Governors, Staff and Parents contributed towards developing this Vision Statement, and the six values that they feel most clearly identify our school. These values are:

                    • Friendship
                    • Respect
                    • Truth
                    • Forgiveness
                    • Thankfulness
                    • Perseverance

Our values are like a jigsaw – they don’t work very well on their own, but together create the perfect picture.  They are put together to make the sign of the cross as this is the heart of our Christian Foundation.

The values all originate from stories in the Bible which we teach the children,  However there is one Bible story which really demonstrates how our small school can achieve great things: it reflects our core values and our ethos.

Mark 4:31-32 “It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”

The children in our school are extremely kind towards each other, polite and well behaved as a result of our strong emphasis on living the school values through every day.  Staff, governors and children all understand and live out these values which make St Thomas á Becket School  a safe, calm and caring place where everyone can achieve their full potential.

Teaching Values

Each term we focus on a different Christian value. By listening to Bible stories, stories of everyday life or learning about famous people or events we talk about what that value means to Christians, ourselves and how it applies to our everyday and school life.

Values are taught as the Collective Worship themes over a year.  Other values are explored in subsequent years; each term we focus on a different value which we link to the core value.

Values and our Curriculum

We use our core Christian Values of Friendship, Forgiveness, Respect, Truth, Thankfulness and Perseverance to promote positive attitudes to learning throughout the curriculum.  The following document shows how our values relate to each area of our curriculum.  This reflects the values and skills needed to promote responsibility for learning and future success so all can flourish.
